“Double take” exhibition Tom McGlynn & Vicente Fita Botet

Double Take June 7 – 28 2025
The third exhibition already at our new location, with paintings by Tom McGlynn and Vicente Fita Botet. The two painters, Tom from New York and Vicente from Spain, have a similar way of collecting material on their mobile phones. Both roam during long walks in the city (NY and Rotterdam) through streets and parks and capture discarded furniture, faded posters, graffiti, household goods and all kinds of objects that are recognizable to us, but would not quickly be seen as inspiration.
For Tom, walking and painting is a way to be ‘in the present’, aware of everything around him. He translates the impressions in an abstract way, with compositions in meticulously chosen colours. Vicente, on the other hand, takes the photo as a direct example to paint the object as faithfully as possible, often on very small canvases.
By taking the time to bring these two different styles together, a surprisingly harmonious exhibition has been created. It would not look out of place in a museum.
As an opening, Léontine Meijer-van Mensch seriously questioned the artists in an interview about their motivations and working methods. The painters are very driven and ambitious.

If you haven't come yet, do so this weekend through the 28th!
