“the small art collection” Sales exhibition

For the festive month of December, we came up with the idea of really setting up a 'shop' with works by all the artists who have presented at Nieuw Charlois in the past year and a half.
It was a resounding success: a lot was sold and finally the art-unaccustomed passerby felt attracted to drop in. There was a lot of feeling, looking, doubting, trying on... and often something went into the bag. There were also people who bought a thick sweater at an ice-cold Christmas market on the Wolphaertsbocht on December 10. All in all, the start of a tradition during the festive month if it were up to us.
Warm regards, Ivo and Nicole
“the great sweater show” Verkoop-exhibition

The very last knitted sweaters from Loes Veenstra will be for sale from November 9 to 26, 2022!
It's incredible when you think about it: Loes has let so many beautiful sweaters slide off her knitting needles. No openwork pattern was too difficult for her, no color combination too crazy... There is something for everyone. What you find very ugly, someone else grabs from the rack with a big smile.
So feel free to visit Nieuw Charlois and be surprised by the sea of colors. A sweater or cardigan with long sleeves costs €50.00, a sweater with short sleeves is €40.00 and sleeveless €30.00. The book, designed by Christien Meinderstsma, which contains more than 550 sweaters, is also for sale here (€30.00).
Don't wait too long... winter is approaching and the expensive heating needs to be turned on again.
Warm regards, Ivo and Nicole
“the great sweater show”

What a day that was last Saturday, November 5, during the sweater show in Pompstraat 44!!
We roped in 12 models (neighbourhoods/friends/family) to walk the catwalk of Persian carpets. In the back of the wood shop, 120 sweaters were displayed and hung on racks in order. The models received a crash course in "walking" from Ariënne Sillié to the beats of DJ Sergio (Yellow heats).
By 4 p.m., nerves were still coursing through the crew's bodies... will there be enough people? And will it go well?
Ten minutes later the spectators poured in in large numbers and the party could begin. Spectacular to see how the sweaters were then professionally shown in color groups. The audience cheered and applauded wildly, and rightly so. As is the case with fashion shows, they are over far too quickly and your eyes have been working overtime. But the goal was achieved: people flew onto the tables and racks with sweaters. There was no fighting over a nice copy. Loes Veenstra would have been proud.
While enjoying a salad and soup, about 40 sweaters were sold that afternoon and satisfied customers walked out the door smiling with a Loes sweater. From November 9 to November 26, the remaining jerseys can be purchased at Nieuw Charlois at Wolphaertsbocht 81.
Warm regards, Ivo and Nicole
“from green to blue to gray to black” Patrícia Pinheiro de Sousa

Patrícia had a beautifully subdued presentation of her video film “Subnautica” on Sunday, October 30, 2022.
An interested audience traveled underwater on the Portuguese coast, where Patrícia showed a fantasy world of creatures trying to survive the extracted lithium. Her work often refers to the extraction of minerals in mines and the harmful results thereof for people and nature.
Her book “From green to blue to gray to back” was unfortunately delayed at the printer, but the collages used in the book could still be admired.
FIND ENGINE Jeroen Arians/ Marie Claire Gellings/ Float

A well-attended opening of Find Engine with beautiful opening words by Jeroen Bouweriks.
Jeroen had written a poem for each of the three artists. Below are the words for Jeroen Arians:
A Still – balanced Move
The absence of the maker
A cuddled green leaved potted plant towering in light air
Crutched and hold in place
A bundle. Artificial light. Left behind by the viewer
Caressed… But all directed to freeze as a still in their dark
The smell of moist… Carefully composed on a found shredded beach umbrella
Pilled up… Sssssttt
Your untameable. Silent aesthetic
In my mind I dared to say goodbye… & Waved…
To a white but clean garbage bag
All diagonally balanced on just one tiny stool made of red plastic
RUUD GOEDHART – SHOP AROUND

Open double lock. Lights on. Remove the ladder from the toilet and hang the flag outside. Place a bench outside. Put Ruud's sandwich plate outside. Place two paving stones on top to prevent blowing over. Turn on the flag tower. Turn on the PC with muzak.
“Come in” / “do you know Ruud's work?” / “yes, crazy work isn't it” / “yes, yes, everything is for sale” / “do you think that's expensive? That's really not expensive” / “oh, I walk over that all the time, the artist allows it” / “Have a nice day to you too, see you soon”
MAARTEN BEL – EMBROIDERY IN THE EVENING HOURS

Last Saturday, April 9, the time had come: Maarten had prepared extremely well for the 'Power Violence' workshop under the musical guidance of the death metal band GRAF.
Around noon, 14 participants trickled in and immediately, after a (hilarious) instruction from Maarten, started applying their own brilliant text or drawing on canvas. All this with earplugs, because the music could already be heard in the Karel de Stouteplein…
After three hours of utmost concentration (there was no talking to each other because of the earplugs), everyone had laid his or her embroidered egg. These works cannot be seen at Nieuw Charlois, because that was the trophy of the day, but many of Maarten Bel's 125 embroideries can still be seen and purchased. The exhibition will run until May 7, 2022.
RESIDENCY FOR THE PEOPLE

During the two weekends of the Residency for the People project there was a lot to see, taste, hear and read.
Especially during the performance on Friday, March 25, people reached the street. There were more than 50 visitors, the vast majority of whom were new and very young. “Sonic soup” was eaten in the form of a performance with music, specially composed for the soup. A special experience...
Mopping with the tap open – Kira Fröse

After a busy opening weekend on February 5 and 6, 2022, the exhibition of Kira Fröse's work can be seen until March 18.
Opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
Be surprised by Kira's crazy bathroom fantasies.
Weekend-expo of Robin Kolleman

Robin Kolleman will be present in Nieuw Charlois on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December to show and explain her latest work.
Despite the intense content of the work, the refugee issue, the execution is light.
Drawings of fences, on which flowers are hung in memory, are burned into very thin paper.
Bastiaan de Kramer creates a mural at Wolf Coffee Rotterdam

Unveiling Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 2:30 PM, during South Explorer
After one week of working at Wolf Coffee, the public can now finally admire the new work of art: his first real mural in his oeuvre of drawings and tattoos.
This project was partly financed by Cultuur Concreet.
Visual artist Bastiaan de Kramer makes a beautiful tattoo in 6 hours

Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m
from the opening speech:
Nicole and I met Bastiaan during the Bcademie, where we guided ten artists as tutors for a year in their artistry, both substantively and practically. We were both immediately captivated by Bastiaan's work, the stories as well as the signature. Now, four years later, we are very proud that he has put together his first solo exhibition here in Nieuw Charlois with work from the past four years. These are almost apocalyptic scenes, which we also know from the work of Jeronimus Bosch (15th century) and which I suddenly relive in Bastiaan's drawings.
Even mythical references are present and are included in a multitude of stories, whether or not they actually happened, which are continuously told with each subsequent stroke of the pen. A drawing does not stop, elsewhere it simply starts again.
