WANDSCHAPPEN is a design studio, founded by Nicole Driessens & Ivo van den Baar in Rotterdam Charlois, The Netherlands. As designers they have developed products based on visual art concepts, converted into makeable designs. Their love for textiles and handicrafts has led to high quality handmade products, which are displayed and sold worldwide. The collections of felt plants, felt vases and felt wall objects are best known.
The idea to make the plants arose from a concept about migration in the neighborhood where WANDSCHAPPEN lives and works. The area, called Charlois, is a notorious part of the city of Rotterdam, where people from all over the world (often refugees from war zones) try to build a new life. The moment people start furnishing their new homes and buy plants, the residents of the area know they will have new neighbors.
“You feel at home where you grow your own plants”.
The Felt Plant, for example, became a sculptural object at the intersection of art and design, inspired by the contours of traditional Dutch plants in the window sills.
Since 2010, the Felt Plants collection has been shown all over the world. A large group of artists and craftsmen have worked in the studio to grow the collection. The WANDSCHAPPEN collection is still expanding and the intensive collaboration with national and international companies leads to special projects and shows.
