“Sequencing” Jelmer Noordeman

They are the most persistent instincts: the desire for symmetry, balance, rhythm in form and sound.

Jelmer Noordeman is deliberately looking for how our perception works. That perception allows us to make divisions so that we can get a grip on something. There are various rational compositions in his work, but can they be distinguished? Just before one division pushes itself to the foreground, a new one forms. The abstract fields enter into a relationship with each other in constant denial. By experimenting with different rhythms, a new coherence is created in which movement and stillness systematically merge. Information is fragmented and rearranged into one whole. The amount of information is confusing and seems to put the whole together in a dissonant way.

His work consists of producing (wall) paintings and video installations in which the relationship between moving and still images is noticeable. Sequencing shows new paintings that revolve around time, perception and clarity in dissonance.

“Gouwe Children” Mikolaj Stojanowicz/ Suzanne Liem

There is a banner with “Gouwe Children” hanging on the blank wall of a residential block in Gouwstraat, Rotterdam Oud Charlois. It has been there for 18 years and is worn out.

Mikolaj Stojanowicz will recreate the banner with photographer Suzanne Liem, who photographed the children at the time and will now photograph children again.
Mikolaj makes blind prints on gold paper using Suzanne's photos as a starting point.
In Nieuw Charlois, the two artists show the series of photos and blind prints to the residents of the neighborhood, as an announcement of the new banner that will be placed on the blank wall later this year.

Opening: Friday, May 5, 2023, 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM Opening hours: May 5 to 13, Thurs. to Sat. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m

warm regards,

Mikolaj, Suzanne, Ivo and Nicole

“Paint. Things” Laurien Dumbar

Laurien Dumbar is a painter who works with photography. With a camera she investigates the role of the painting material in the illusion of space on a flat surface. Dumbar is particularly fascinated by the question of how a painterly image can appear in a 'real' space instead of on the canvas. In her studio she works with everyday materials such as plastic foil, paper and paint, with which she creates spatial or plastic situations that she captures with an I-Phone. In Nieuw Charlois she shows a series of large digital prints that she had made of these photos. They are matte and intense in color, the skin is real and tangible, but at the same time it is an image. Dumbar wonders what abstract painting can be in the reality we live in, with screens between us and reality, and in which a digital mindset has changed our view.

Opening: Saturday, March 18, 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM Opening hours: March 18 to April 15, Thurs. to Sat. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m

warm regards,

Laurien, Ivo and Nicole

“Orchestrating Coincidence” Liza Wolters / Hilde Onis

Orchestrating Coincidence is a project by Hilde Onis and Liza Wolters; an edition of 30 unique sculptures consisting of 26 individuals, 2 duos and 5 artist's proof.
The thirty unique sculptures are accompanied by a publication that plays with character assignment. The printed leporello catalog comprehensively touches on what it means to collect and to be one part of a whole.

With Orchestrating Coincidence, Hilde Onis and Liza Wolters examine the representation of the space in between, resulting in a series of 30 sculptures that defy all expectations by seeking connection at their breaking point. By developing a method that aims to limit, but at the same time provokes unhappiness, the individual objects of the series have a say in controlling their own contours.

In addition to the catalogue, the series follows on from an essay written in sync with its production. Built by and around various artists and thinkers who take erosion, fragility, in-between space and the 'failure' of objects in their original function as a starting point, the text examines the content that emerges from in-between space and absent material.

To reserve an edition*, please contact Hilde and Liza ( or Ivo and Nicole.

Please state the desired number. You will be contacted after the exhibition to collect or deliver the edition.
