“Vartuhi- invisible side of Rose Lady” exhibition Silva Bingaz

Vartuhi- invisible side of Rose Lady, from 6 to 28 september 2025
For the first time in its history, Nieuw Charlois has dedicated an exhibition to photography: the work of Silva Bingaz (Istanbul). Her work focuses on womanhood, motherhood, and feminism.
The opening was busy, with many new visitors who came especially for the photography.
During the conversation between Silva and photographer Prins de Vos, the audience learned a lot about the background of the photos. For example, Silva explained that while walking through the Charlois neighborhood, she approached people she saw as having a "story" within them. After a conversation, she always managed to quickly gain their trust and pull out the camera. Laughing, Silva explained that men all over the world, in particular, are very willing to take off their shirts for her. People with tattoos are also quick to proudly display their bodies. Others turn their backs to the lens, but this doesn't diminish their personality. Her work makes the viewer feel like a voyeur, but upon closer inspection, no one seems uncomfortable.
Silva's residency in Oud-Charlois has yielded hundreds of photographs, of which we are proud to present a powerful selection.
